3 types of carpet

Mark's Carpet and Upholstery Cleaners offers pressurised heated water cleaning for all types of carpet, and upholstery fabrics in your home. From a Berber Loop Pile, to a Woven Wilton, our carpet cleaning service will have it looking good as new in no time.

Loop Pile

Loop pile carpets are very durable and are a wise choice for high-traffic areas. They come in three main types

Berber carpets look like and are named after a handmade bulky wool carpet made by the Berber tribes of North Africa and Asia.

Level loop pile is made by weaving even loops of yarn into carpet backing at both ends. This type of carpet is very durable and track resistant as well as having a natural, casual appearance.

Multi-level loop pile is like level loop pile except that the loop heights vary (usually two to three different loop heights) creating an informal, random textured appearance.

Cut Pile

The best-selling type of carpet is textured cut pile. Cutting looped carpet fibres at the top creates cut pile with yarn bundles standing straight. There are many types of Cut Pile carpet, a few notable examples are

Frieze is a highly, tightly twisted cut pile carpet with a dense, low pile surface.

Twisted carpets are one of the most popular carpet types in the UK. The yarn is tightly twisted to give a defined, textured surface and heat set.

Shag Pile is making a comeback from the 70s. The pile can be up to 50mm long and casual in texture, creating a truly deep, luxurious feel.

Woven Carpets

Woven carpets are amongst the finest most luxury carpets on the market. The traditional method of making these carpets is perfect for patterns. 3 main types of woven carpet are

Axminster carpet pile is inserted into the backing as it is woven and cut to length, creating U-shaped tufts that give a velvety surface.

Wilton carpets are similar to the Axminster, except a continuous fibre is woven all the way through. The fibres can then be cut to create a range of cut and loop textured effects.

Flat Weave carpets are manufactured in the same way as Wilton carpets,  their loop pile allows the yarn to be woven across a wider area to create a flatter, more textured effect.

Testimonials

Mark cleaned my living room carpet earlier this week. It's come up so clean, it's a beige carpet so wasn't expecting it to come up as clean as it did. Great job, turned up on time and really scrubbed out the stains.
